Coffee Shop Update

Friday I did something which I vowed never to do: I was having my midday Orange Mocha Frappuccino. I had just diagnosed a gentleman with hyperhidrosis(I could have done that without studying under Dr. House). And I started looking through the classifieds.

Sitting in a coffee shop in the middle of the day looking through the classifieds creates the wrong impression. The impression that I want to give off is that I am looking to form a 'circle' of artists, scientists and other smartified people. Not, that I need a job.

As I sat there looking through the classified I realized I was loosing my dream of developing a network of coffee shop genius friends. What happened to my dropping in and discussing current events, innovations in spelling, theories about things, and new paradigms for understanding my romantic life?

(Pictured: Potential Coffee Shop Friend: Nuclear Physicist.)

In other words, what happened to my dream of a real world equivalent to the COI community?

Well, one can dream, now can't one? I may not have found my dream job, and I may not have found my circle of friends, but I did notice there was a classified for a SWF looking for a roomate. Not bad for a day's works.

I didn't know USA Today carried classified ads!
Is a Starbucks really the best place find the literati? Just asking...

I'm much too shy to call the number. But, it gave me hope.

Slightly off topic: Where can one find an autographed copy of your book?

OK people let's be clear. I didn't delete the comment. Removed by author of the post, not by THE author, i.e. me.

Actually carribou. And I believe that answer is yes. Although, I don't actually know what a literati is.

Justin, you need to go to the bookstore coffee shop, scatter "future classics" from the literay section about your table and please be sure to wear your glasses and pose with your pipe.

That'll get you noticed.

quilly: I think you are on to something! Today, after work, I will leave the glow sticks behind and try your method!
Thanks,

Justin, do you have $15? I'll send you one. How about fifteen cents? I'll think about it. In the meantime, you might visit my blog, but it's rather dull compared to yours. I'll try to do something ironical if you like.

finding fair hope:

Amazon lists your book for 13.95--Which means the autograph is just $1.05. That's a steal. Can I get the autographed version through findingfairhope.com?

Also, in looking over the recently mentioned website, isn't Henry George the guy who heavily influenced Tolstoy?

Oh, Justin, two more tiny things: those "future classics" cannot be your own work, and you should let other people take the spotlight. (Remember, Toto, you're not in COI anymore.)

Oh, yeah, Henry George/Tolstoy/Karl Marx -- all those guys influenced each other. There was this club in Des Moines that was studying the theories of Henry George (this was in the 1890's and I'm not making it up) and they decided to start a Utopian community on the principle of Single Tax, which was a Socialist variant that was designed to eliminate the evildoers known as land speculators. The club moved to a barren piece of land in a beautiful location in South Alabama, proclaimed that they had a fair hope of success, and named the town Fairhope!

As you can see, they eliminated all land speculation for all time. For more information you'll have to read my blog and my book. This may be the longest comment ever posted on your blog. Do I get a prize for that? Or do I get permanently excommunicated?

Next time bring your laptop. And IM all of us. And you can have your portable COI network everywhere you go.

And you won't need the nuclear physicists or the ice sculptors or the actuaries or the investment bankers or the chaos theorists or the gynaecologists or the improv actors or the venture capitalists or the cool young techie who's just sold her company to Khosla for a few million.

I'll let you know the next time I'm in the area. After 'smart-ass', 'coffee-shop genius' is my main occupation.
