Notes on World Literature (I)

My smoothie from Ben and Jerry’s is perfect today.

But on to more substantial matters.

I accidently started reading J.M. Coetzee’s Slow Man. I didn't put it down until I was almost half way through. Coetzee was the 2003 Nobel Prize Winner and is about as crunk as they come.

He has this kind of mystical view of life (I mean like the thing we are given at birth and what we someohow share with birds and squirrels and granite. Maybe not that last one. But you get the idea).

I find some variation of that mysticism in several of my A-List novelists: Tolstoy, Pasternak, Solzhenitsyn.

Tolstoy was nominated for the first Nobel Prize. He didn't win it.

Instead, it went to Sully Prudhomme. An Excellent choice.

Sully was the author of such works as {note to self: find book Prudhomme wrote}

Anyway, do yourself a favor.
1) Read Elizabeth Costello
2) Get a smoothie from Ben and Jerry’s
3) Read Slow Man.
